What food Can My Friend With Gestational Diabetes Eat?

My friend has gestational diabetes, she is over 30 weeks alongĀ  with her pregnancy, we are having a party this weekend and I want to make sure all the food is stuff she can eat.

With only a few weeks to go until the baby arrives I am pretty sure this will be the last party she goes to before giving birth so I want it to be as much fun for her as it can be.

I know she isn’t supposed to eat breads and things of that nature but what specific things do I need to stay away from. I am wondering whether certain breads are ok, could I get some pita bread, or even nan bread to go with the food I serve.

My husband said I should just call her and ask what she wants, but I know she won’t want to feel that I am cooking especially for her. She is also a bit emotional and I don’t want to ask anything that may upset her. I just want to make it as good an experience as I can for her.

Where do I find a cookbook for women with gestational diabetes, if such a thing even exists. If I can’t find a full recipe book for diabetics can I just look for a few ideas somewhere.

At the least I need to find out what other things are absolute no-no’s to serve.
