Should I be worried about gestational diabetes?

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 32 weeks. I am now 35 and 6 days and just started taking insulin this week. I have been able to keep my sugar under control until now. This is my second child. But I was not diagnosed with gestational diabetes with my first. What kind of risks am I looking at for my baby and myself?
